Our Ingredients Explained
Mud Foods is a small artisanal pie maker based in Midhurst, West Sussex.
We pride ourselves on the quality of the ingredients we use and the efforts we go to in sourcing these as close to home as possible.
All the beef, pork, lamb, milk and double cream we use is organically certified from the Goodwood Estate just outside Chichester.
All our chicken is free-range, British and from Castlemead, near Salisbury.
Our eggs are free-range from Hallgate Eggs and Ken’s Eggs on the South Downs.
Our game is from Southdowns Venison at Duncton on the South Downs.
The beer we use is from Greyhound Brewery, Storrington, West Sussex and the cheddar we use is from Mike Smales at Lyburn Cheese near Romsey.
The beef and chicken stock we use is 100% natural beef and chicken stock, no yeast, no sugar, no E numbers.
The pastry we make is with butter, vegetable shortening, free range eggs and a pinch of salt.
The meat content is between 40-55% depending upon the variety.
Our pies are made with natural ingredients; no preservatives, no additives.
We have been operating for over 10 years, we have only ever had a 5-star food safety rating. We also have SALSA accreditation, which is a higher level of food safety and intensive auditing than that covered by the ‘Scores on the Doors’ standard of the local authority.
